Please note in order to book an animal encounter the company you are booking with must be fully licensed. Our license number is HPK/PA001. This is for the new Animal Activities License which came into force in April 2019. All other licences are no longer valid! Please make sure you book someone who is licensed, otherwise you will find they are not insured. Our license shows that stringent welfare requirements have been met - make sure you are booking with a reputable provider like Animal Magic!

Enquiries

You should read and ensure you fully understand our booking terms and conditions given at the bottom of the page (raising any queries you may have with us) before asking us to confirm your booking. By asking us to confirm your booking with a completed form, you agree that you have read and understood our booking conditions, and to have actually done so before a contract between us takes place.

When making an enquiry to us about your event we will provide a price if requested, please note this is not a confirmation of booking and the date will not be held for you just because a price has been obtained and a slot identified. Any such enquiry simply confirms that we are dealing with your booking request and it is not a confirmation of it. It does not constitute a contract between us.

Do your animals mind travelling?

Our animals are used to travelling in their containers. We dont travel too far in order to prevent them from getting stressed (this is why we only cover parts of Derbyshire, Staffordshire, Cheshire, Nottinghamshire and Manchester up to a maximum of one hour and 35 minutes travelling time from Buxton, Derbyshire).

Why do you charge so much?giant hissing cockroach

You may think you are just paying for an hour's party and travelling time, when in reality it takes us a lot longer than that. Each animal must be carefully prepared and packed to ensure they travel safely and comfortably. At the end of the party they have to be packed and then unpacked at home - the whole process takes around two hours. Most exotic animals require specialist diets which are expensive to buy and take time to prepare. Most of our animals east fresh fruit and veg, some of which is very costly, others require lots of vitamin supplements, or expensive live or frozen food. It takes us a long time to prepare food for all our animals - around three hours per day! Travel costs are also high. As you can imagine, insurance costs to cover the parties/ events are high, especially as we choose to go for £5000000 worth of insurance. (Insurance details can be provided on request when booking).

Are the animals friendly/clean? girl with snake

Yes, we only bring along friendly, captive bred animals. All new animals are introduced gradually, getting used to travel on short journeys, noise in various venues and different people through short handling sessions. To prevent stress, the animals are only handled for a short time before being placed back in their enclosure, which has food, water, bedding, heating and hides where necessary, allowing them to rest. Most are usually handled only a few times each visit. If any animal shows signs of stress, they are removed from the show. The animals are not expected to attend shows every day, they are given rest breaks to ensure they dont become stressed. As we have several of most animals this is not a problem.

Please note, with the nature of our business we cannot 100% guarantee that an animal will not nip, poo, pee, or scratch. As our animals are picked to be friendly this risk is minimized and we are happy to say this happens very very rarely. Please be aware that the animals are handled at your own/ your guest's risk, we accept no liability for injuries caused. It is important to note that our animals may bite or scratch if mistreated or alarmed (or a scented skunk might spray). This is why we ask for adult supervision to help manage the behaviour of the children.

As they are our pets it is important that they recieve the highest standard of care, the animals recieve weekly health checks and have specialised diets together with appropriate vitamin supplements. Animals that are under the weather or are off their food do not come along to shows. Enrichment is provided through appropriate enclosures and periodically finding new ways of delivering food, allowing them to forage in a more natural manner.

All are kept very clean. To prevent accidents we bring along tarpaulins, paper towels and cleaning fluid and make sure any messes are throughly cleaned away.

What time do you arrive?

We usually arrive at shows approximately 15 mins before to set up, we can easily set up in this time provided we have parking close by (as requested in the booking terms and conditions) and with ground floor access. If you require us to be there a bit earlier we can do (please tell us when booking), however there would be a small charge for this.

Event requirements - what do you require at the event?

  • You must let us know if there are steps to be negotiated to the venue, we may not be able to do the show if there are as they are a safety hazard for the animals when carrying all of the boxes - especially in winter! Where possible we ask for ground floor venues.
  • The premises should be indoors unless we have been advised otherwise (and you have provided all the equipment as stated below). Doors and windows should be kept closed and the room should be warm in winter and not too hot in summer.
  • Unless it is in a private, downstairs, function room with no bar/ access to alcohol and with easy access (i.e. not through the pub) we cannot do shows in these venues as they are not safe for the animals. Some of the animals can be alarmed by the glass/ reflections in pub bars. We reserve the right to refuse to attend events where adults are consuming alcohol due to safety for the animals.
  • We will bring our own sheeting for the floor and cleaning supplies in case the animals need to go to the loo! We will remove and dispose of any animal chameleon on branchwaste off the premises.
  • It is important that you ensure hand washing facilities are available, whilst we do bring anti-bacterial hand gel; it is your responsibility to ensure that everyone who has handled the animals has thoroughly washed their hands.

For premises indoors (halls) we require:

  • A ground floor venue
  • No pubs (or rooms with bars as animals and alcohol don’t mix!), no sports halls, gyms or dance studios
  • Parking straight outside the door (within 30 feet)
  • 2 x plug sockets
  • 3 x tables next to plug sockets
  • 15 x chairs for seating children
  • No music/ balloons/ bouncy castles/ loud speakers etc
  • Doors and windows to be kept closed
  • Access to water/ handwashing facilities
  • Please ensure no participants are eating during the show
  • Please do not spray any air freshener, or fry any food whilst the animals are present as it may harm the birds

For indoor home shows we require:

  • Parking on drive or within 30 feet of the door
  • 2 x plug sockets
  • No music/ balloons/ bouncy castles/ loud speakers etc
  • Conservatories are unsuitable when it is hot for the animals
  • Pets should be kept securely in another room
  • Any loose ornaments must be removed (we don’t want to knock anything over!)
  • If concerned about animal scratches on furniture please cover it
  • Non-slippy surface on which to place a tarpaulin mat for the children to sit around
  • Doors and windows to be kept closed
  • Access to water/ handwashing facilities
  • Please ensure no participants are eating during the show
  • Please do not spray any air freshener, or fry any food whilst the animals are present as it may harm the birds

If the party is going to take place inside your home we recommend you move all non-fixed ornaments in the room to prevent accidents from happening if an animal/ bird is startled - or in case a presenter or child knocks something over. Please be aware there is a possibility of a bird/ animal jumping onto furniture and causing damage with their claws. If you are concerned about damage we recommend that you either cover furniture with blankets or hold the party in another venue as accidents do happen and Animal Magic Parties will not be held liable for any damages occurred whilst the animals are in your home.

If the show is to be held outdoors please be aware we might not be able to bring certain animals such as the sugar gliders etc as we would not be able to ensure their safety. You must inform us at the time of booking if the event is to be outside as we can only do outdoor shows at certain times of the year.

For premises outdoors (fetes, schools, commercial) we require:

  • If the event is a short event (compared to an all-day show) we will require a 4-sided marquee with door flap, plus access to electricity
  • We will also require 3 x tables and 2 x chairs
  • Parking next to the marquee with room to exit
  • Access to handwashing facilities/ water
  • We must not be positioned near any music/ bands/ loudspeakers/ fairground rides/ bouncy castles etc
  • If the event is an all day event we will bring our own marquee, for this we will need a level, grassed area of sufficient space to set up a 3 metre by 3 metre marquee and space to park our vehicle nearby
  • Please do not spray any air freshener, or fry any food whilst the animals are present as it may harm the birds

For outdoor home shows we require:

  • A 4-sided marquee with door flap, plus access to electricity within the marquee
  • We will also require 3 x tables and 2 x chairs
  • An enclosed garden
  • Access to handwashing facilities/ water
  • We must not be positioned near any music/ bouncy castles etc
  • PLEASE BE AWARE IF THE WEATHER TURNS COLDER/ RAINY WE MAY NEED TO DO THE PARTY INDOORS
  • Please do not spray any air freshener, or fry any food whilst the animals are present as it may harm the birds

Parking requirements

When we get to your chosen venue, we need to have FREE parking at the premises. We need to park on the drive for parties in houses. Or for venues we must be within a maximum of 30 feet from the building). As you can imagine, we have a lot of containers to unload and we dont want to our animals to get cold as we are unloading them and carrying them into the building. In winter it would be great if we could have some help loading and unloading so we can get the animals into the venue as quickly as possible.

    • If we arrive at the venue and are unable to park you (the client) would still be liable for the full cost of the booking.

    • We need to be made aware of any parking restrictions in the area - we need parking for an hour longer than the duration of the event. If parking is not available we may be unable to carry out your booking. If we are late setting up due to parking/ unloading issues we may not be able to provide the full duration of the event due to other events on the day. In this case, you the client would still be liable for the full cost of the booking. It is always advisable for you to save us a space right next to the entrance.

    • Where cost is incurred to park, this may be added to the overall cost of the event and will be payable before the event starts. Where fines are incurred through exceeding parking restrictions through reasons beyond our control, this will be added to the cost of the event.

    Why no balloons or music or bouncy castles?

    We ask for balloons to be put away until the animals have been safely packed away, just because loud bangs from popping balloons can Gecko looking downstartle some of the animals and cause them to jump/ run away. This goes for any loud noises, so we prefer not to be seated near any loudspeakers or musical equipment. If we turn up to an outdoor event and we are placed next to a loudspeaker or PA system we will be unable to complete the booking. In this case you will be liable for the full cost of the booking. We cannot do parties where bouncy castles are inflated as the blowers and bouncing children make too much noise for the animals. It also scares the animals if children are running and jumping onto the castle.

    Participants

    Why do you ask for a maximum of 15 children?

    We ask that you limit numbers to 15 children at the party or animal encounter, this is because if there are too many children they wont all get the chance to handle each animal and we would not have time to show all the amazing animals we have brought with us. Noise is also a factor, if we are trying to give out handling instructions or information to people who are far away, they wont be able to hear us. Plus if the room is small and packed with a lot of people, we will find it difficult to move around and pass the animals to everyone. If you would like us to cater for very large groups of children we would ask that they be split into two groups with one group being in another room or doing a quiet activity to avoid excessive noise.

    Numbers of children must be agreed with us when booking. You must let us know if more than 15 children are to attend in order to avoid unexpected charges.   We charge £2.50 for each child over the maximum number of 15.

    Designated HelperDuring the show we will ask you to provide a designated helper.  There must be a minimum of one adult helper to be present per fifteen children (at all times).  We will ask this helper to help manage the children’s (and adults) behaviour/ noise, help keep them seated, ensure no one is eating whilst petting the animals and ensure the participants have washed their hands at the end of the show.

    Can you do shows for larger groups?

    Yes we can but certain terms and conditions must be followed to ensure comfort and safety for the animals. We do charge extra per child over the maximum limit of 15. The charge per child is £2.50 each. If there are more than 20 children we will expect them to be split into two groups to avoid undue stress for the animals. We would ask that one group do a quiet activity (i.e. colouring, crafts, glitter tattoos etc) whilst the other group view the animals.  We can provide you with animal colouring sheets, animal masks to colour and other interesting animal games to do on the day. We ask for at least one adult to be present to help manage the children in each group and ensure the noise is kept down for the animals.

    For school events, creches, charitable and community groups, such as Scouts, Girl Guides, more than 20 children/people may participate in one group. However, we do ask for adult supervisors to assist in managing the behaviour of the children.

    Ages of participants

    caitlin partyAll participants must be over the age of 3 years old. Whilst we are there to entertain the children, we are not there to be the sole carers for them and require responsible adults to be present to take care of the children. This is particularly important when it comes to controlling the noise the children are making and ensuring the children wash their hands after handling the animals. We require you to ensure that all children have washed their hands and used bactericial hand gel after touching the animals and before eating any food.

    Whilst we are very keen for children to interact and handle the animals, we reserve the right to withdraw the animals if we feel they are being mishandled or not treated with respect. If any person is stressing the animals we will ask supervising adults to remove them from the rest of the group for a short time.  At no point should the children be left unsupervised as we will be busy looking after the animals. We ask for a minimum of one adult to be present per fifteen children (at all times) to help manage their behaviour/ noise.

    If at any point in the show you or any other member of your party behaves in such a way as to be likely to cause distress or harm to our animals we reserve the right to terminate the show with immediate effect. No refunds will be made and we will not pay any expenses or costs incurred as a result of the termination. Animal Magic has Public Liability Insurance but cannot be held responsible for injury caused by mistreatment of the animals.  Should injury occur to one of our animals as a direct result of mistreatment by one of the party guests then the client will be held responsible for any vet fees incurred and/or replacement of the animal.

    No participant should be eating during the show. Participants who smoke must wash their hands before participating as it may harm some of the insects.

    Can all the animals come to my party?

    Whilst we would like to bring all the animals to your party, we cannot guarantee it at all times. Most of the reptiles go through periods where they shed, to bring them along during this period wouldnt be fair on either you or them, as some of them get grumpy when they shed their skin!! Several of the insects/ mini beasts may not be available at certain times of the year due to lifecycles. Also, if an animal falls ill, it would have to stay behind. Some of the animals cannot tolerate very hot weather - such as the Chinchilla, so wont travel during very hot periods. You can request that certain animals stay behind, if for instance, spiders, scorpions or other creepy crawlies make you nervous. However, not all people at the party may feel the same and children often enjoy holding them - it would be a shame to deny them the experience!

    As we sometimes bring scented skunks there is the possibility of it spraying if mistreated by a child (we therefore ask you to help manage the behaviour of the children and provide adequate supervision during the show.  We ask for one adult per fifteen children.

    Please note skunks spray only as a last resort.

    Why do I need to check the booking paperwork?

Changes to bookings will only be acknowledged as changed once we have given you written confirmation.  We cannot be held responsible for turning up late if given an incorrect address/ postcode.

    • It is important that you provide a valid mobile/ landline telephone number on which to contact you on the event date in case of need.
    • We require you to check through the booking details upon receipt of our confirmation email to ensure all details are correct.
    • It is important you pay attention to the requirements of the animals so that we can provide the service when we get to you!

    How do I Pay?

    Leaf insectYou are required to pay a £35 deposit in order to secure your booking. This can be paid via bank transfer or a cheque (if the show date is more than 10 working days away).  If a deposit is not sent with the booking form we are not able to guarantee you a place. Once your deposit has been paid you are deemed to be accepting of all our terms and conditions.  The contract balance is due on arrival on the day of the event and is paid via cash only for private bookings to avoid cheque fraud.

    • The remaining balance payment for bookings is strictly due on the day of the party and bookings from private individuals must be paid in cash before the show commences so please plan accordingly. We cannot start until appropriate payment has been received.  Receipts are given on request.
    • For schools, colleges, businesses (if addressed to head office), registered charities and community groups such as Scouts and Guides, payment can be made via cheque at no extra charge.

We undertake to confirm receipt of any such notice by return. It is your responsibility to satisfy yourself that we have received any such notification. If you do not receive our confirmation, you should email us again, and telephone us to ensure that the cancellation is confirmed otherwise we will presume the booking is going ahead.

    If a cancellation takes place with less than three weeks notice from the party date we reserve the right to charge a 50% fee.

    • The deposit is not refundable if the booking is cancelled within 21 days of the show date. If cancelling before 21 days a fee of £3 will be deducted from the deposit to cover bank charges.  If you wish to transfer your party booking to a different date and/or time, you will be required to pay a £15.00 transfer charge at the time of doing so.

    Force Majeure

    • We will arrive approximately 15 minutes before to set up (this is more than enough time as long as the parking and premises terms are followed.)
    • We never double book anyone, but on occasion circumstances such as road accidents, weather (especially snow) or family emergencies happen that make it impossible for us to get to you on the day or at the time booked. This almost never happens but please be aware it is a possibility and we will endeavour to rearrange your booking as soon as possible. In the unlikely event that we cancel the booking, we will advise you by phone at the earliest opportunity and will seek to rearrange an alternative date.
    • We cannot be held responsible for losses incurred by delayed arrival due to unforeseen circumstances, ill-health (human or animal). We will always attempt to re-book, but this remains subject to availability. All bookings, whether original or re-made, are accepted on a ‘first-come, first-served’ basis.  Where we are delayed due to force majeure we will try and make up the time where possible.
    • Please note, you may not cancel a booking as a result of a delay where the engagement would still be possible.
    • We would really appreciate it if you could let us know about any roadworks causing delays in your area so we can plan alternate routes. We do account for traffic delays when giving party times but can occasionally overrun these if the traffic is really heavy. We would prefer not to turn up late if we can help it! Placing balloons on the entrance to the premises/ drive etc can also help us find your venue as some premises are hard to find!
    • If there is snow and we deem the roads to be too dangerous to travel then we will contact you. In these instances we would seek to either arrange an alternative date with you or cancel the show with no charge.

    9. Event / Site Information

    Due to the nature of our business, we require very specific instructions and information from you in regard to the venue.  It is your responsibility to ensure you are familiar with the venue information we require upon booking; to ensure we can carry out the booking to your requirements.  The type of information we require can be found above in the Frequently Asked Questions and below:

    • You must let us know if there are steps to be negotiated to the venue, we may not be able to do the show if there are as they are a safety hazard for the animals when carrying all of the boxes - especially in winter! Where possible we ask for ground floor venues.
    • The premises should be indoors unless we have been advised otherwise (and you have provided all the equipment as stated below). Doors and windows should be kept closed and the room should be warm in winter and not too hot in summer.

    Unless it is in a private, downstairs, function room with no bar/ access to alcohol and with easy access (i.e. not through the pub) we cannot do shows in these venues as they are not safe for the animals.

We will remove and dispose of any animal waste off the premises.

    • It is important that you ensure hand washing facilities are available, whilst we do bring anti-bacterial hand gel; it is your responsibility to ensure that everyone who has handled the animals has thoroughly washed their hands.
    • It is important you you spray no air fresher or fry any food, before the show, during the show or whilst the animals are being packed away. The fumes are harmful and could kill the birds!

    10. Participants

    10.4.1  We limit participant numbers to 15 children per booking. This allows for each child to actively participate with the encounter and interact with the animals;
    10.4.2  Noise is also a factor which can detract from the experience.  This is especially true when we are giving out handling instructions or if we are speaking and moving around the room;
    10.4.3  If the booking involves a large group of children, we expect that they would be divided into smaller groups with only one group being in the same area at one time to reduce noise levels and not startle the animals;
    10.4.4  You must let us know if more than 15 children are to attend in order to avoid unexpected charges due to changes to the booking
    Our current fees are £2.50 per child over the maximum 15 threshold;
    10.4.5  For school events, crèches, charitable and community groups, such as Scouts, Girl Guides, our participant threshold is 30 children/people per group. However, it is expected that you will supply additional adult supervision to assist with managing the behaviour of the children.  We reserve the right to cancel any bookings where additional suitable adult supervision is not provided.

    11. Participant Age requirement

    11.5.1  All participants must be over the age of 3 years (unless the event is in a nursery);
    11.5.2    It is your sole responsibility to ensure the participants wash their hands before and after handling the animals.  We further recommend that you use bactericidal hand gel after touching the animals and before eating any food;
    11.5.3    Whilst we are very keen for participants to interact and handle the animals, we reserve the right to withdraw the animals if they are being mishandled or not treated with respect;
    11.5.4    On occasion, animals may be sensitive to external stressing factors including participant handling and excessive noise.  We reserve the right to remove the animals from the experience to settle them;
    11.5.5    When participants are not behaving as expected and are causing distress to the animals, we will ask supervising adults to remove the relevant participant(s) from the rest of the group for a short time;
    11.5.6    At no point should the children be left unsupervised as we will be busy looking after the animals. We ask you to provide a designated helper.

    11.5.7 Participants who smoke must wash their hands before participating as it may harm some of the insects.

    12. Animals

    12.1 Whilst we would like to bring all the animals to your party, we cannot guarantee it at all times as some may be shedding or ill. Some of the animals cannot tolerate very hot weather - such as the Chinchilla, so wont travel during hot periods. We reserve the right to withdraw any or all of the animals in instances where we feel the animals or the audience’s health or safety might be compromised.
    12.2 Animal Magic has Public Liability Insurance but cannot be held responsible for injury caused by mistreatment or handling of the animals.  Should injury occur to one of our animals as a direct result of mistreatment by one of the party guests then we reserve the right to terminate the show with immediate effect.  No refunds will be made and we will not pay any expenses or costs incurred as a result of the termination. The client will be held responsible for any vet fees incurred and/or replacement of the animal.
    12.3 As we may on rare occasions bring scented skunks there is the possibility of it spraying if mistreated by a child (we therefore ask you to help manage the behaviour of the children and provide adequate supervision during the show.  We ask for one adult per fifteen children.  Please note skunks spray only as a last resort.
    12.4 Please note, with the nature of our business we cannot 100% guarantee that an animal will not bite, poo, pee, or scratch.   Animals are handled at your own risk.  As our animals are picked to be friendly this risk is minimized and we are happy to say this happens very very rarely. It is important to note that our animals may bite or scratch if mistreated (or a scented skunk might spray). This is why we ask for adult supervision to help manage the behaviour of the children.
